How to Make Pizza at Home – Step-by-Step Recipe
Pizza is one of the most loved foods in the world. Originating from Italy, pizza has become a global favorite because of its delicious taste, crispy crust, melted cheese, and flavorful toppings. The good news is that you can easily make pizza at home with simple ingredients.
In this guide, you will learn how to make homemade pizza step by step.
Ingredients
For the Pizza Dough
2½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon yeast (instant or active dry)
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Pizza Sauce
1 cup tomato sauce
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
Toppings
1–1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Sliced onions
Sliced bell peppers
Mushrooms
Olives
Cooked chicken or pepperoni (optional)
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a bowl, pour the warm water and add sugar and yeast. Mix gently and leave it for about 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy. This means the yeast is active.
Next, add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the mixture. Stir everything together until a soft dough forms.
Step 2: Knead the Dough
Place the dough on a clean surface and knead it for about 8–10 minutes. The dough should become smooth and elastic. If the dough feels sticky, sprinkle a little extra flour while kneading.
Step 3: Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a bowl and cover it with a clean cloth or plastic wrap. Leave it in a warm place for about 1 hour. The dough should double in size during this time.
Step 4: Make the Pizza Sauce
Heat olive oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then add tomato sauce, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce cook for about 5–10 minutes. After cooking, allow it to cool.
Step 5: Shape the Pizza Base
Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F). Punch down the risen dough to remove air bubbles. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough into a round shape about 10–12 inches wide. Place it on a pizza tray or baking tray.
Step 6: Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Add your favorite toppings such as onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, or cooked chicken.
Step 7: Bake the Pizza
Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12–15 minutes. The crust should turn golden brown and the cheese should melt and bubble.
Step 8: Serve and Enjoy
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 2 minutes. Slice it into pieces and serve hot.
Tips for Perfect Homemade Pizza
Use fresh yeast for better dough rising.
Preheat the oven well before baking.
Do not overload the pizza with toppings.
For extra flavor, sprinkle oregano or chili flakes on top after baking.
Making pizza at home is fun, easy, and delicious. With just a few ingredients and simple steps, you can enjoy restaurant-style pizza right from your kitchen.
